Memories of Lucie : Hello, my name is Erv Hunt I first met Lucie many years ago when she came to work at International Light Metals in Torrance where I was working I remember that she had only planned to work there until she could go back to work at the higher paying transportation job she was temporarily laid off from. Well she did get re-called back to her old job. Since Lucie was so well liked, someone suggested throwing her a going away party, so we did. There was DINNER, there were GIFTS, there were DRINKS, there was LAUGHTER, then there was SILENCE, Lucie had passed out from the 1/2 of glass of champagne she drank. The party continued while Lucie lay sleeping in the booth she had been sitting in. Lucie was called back to her old higher paying job, but it was only a few weeks before she started missing her extended family from ILM. One day Lucie called & wanted to know if it would be ok if she stopped by & visit. Toward the end of that visit Lucie came over to my desk & told me the real reason she came to visit. She wanted to know if she could have her old job back. She said she missed everyone & it wasn't the same at her other job (even with more money). We did hire Lucie back & she became our indoor sunshine for many years until she went on medical leave. Some of you may remember the 50s. I had to look on the internet for events that took place back in 1955. I read that it was the year both James Dean & Albert Einstein died. On a happier note, I also found out that it was the year that TVs longest running western (Gunsmoke) started. Other popular TV shows were The $64,000 Question, The Ed Sullivan show, The Jack Benny show, Dragnet & of course I Love Lucy. There was another big event that took place in 1955. It was in November when Lucie McMurtie was born. Lucie may have been small in stature, but she had a big HEART, an even bigger PERSONALITY and was a GIANT among the men & women that knew her. Lucie had always bounced back after rough times. She had Polio at a young age. As an adult she had a still born baby. During a back operation in 1992 she survived 3 code blues. But this time she didn't make it. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness I feel about Lucie's death. I know we all share comfort in knowing Lucie is no longer suffering. Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, looking back to memories of Lucie may help comfort you tomorrow There are two other galleries with scanned pictures of Lucie.
